The Swedish system employs basic movements that can be slow and gentle, vigorous or bracing, according to the results the practitioner wishes to achieve. Basically, it is a relaxation massage. (However, it is professional.) The Swedish massage system is still the most widely use and is most frequently incorporated into other systems.

Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839) of Smaaland, Sweden, who was a physiologist, and fencing master, systemized and developed movements, he found to be beneficial in improving his own physical condition. The Ling (Swedish movement) System consisted of movements classified as passive and active. Ling worked out a series of movements that he called “Swedish Remedial Gymnastics”. He based this system on physiology, which was then developing into a science. In 1813 the Swedish government created the Royal Swedish Central Institute of Gymnastics and named Ling president. Ling died in 1839; however, his students published his works posthumously. The Ling System spread throughout the world.

The Japanese system, called Shiatsu, a finger pressure method, is based on the Oriental concept that the body has a series of energy (tsubo) points. When pressure is properly applied to these points, circulation is improved and nerves are stimulated. This system is said to greatly improve body metabolism and to relieve a number of physical disorders.

Reflexology is the art of promoting overall well-being by manipulation the body’s extremities-most commonly the feet, although some reflexologists also work with the hands and the ears. Like other forms of bodywork, such as massage and acupressure, reflexology is gaining popularity in the United States and Canada. It especially appeals to those interested in getting in touch with their bodies from head to toe, and enhancing their well-being at the same time.

In the practical application of Thai massage, your purpose is to bring about a balance of the energy levels in the body, with appropriate amounts of pressure and a multitude of stretches to open the channels and allow stagnant energy to flow freely. Thai massage is basically, a ‘lazy man’s yoga’ the giver is pulling and stretching the recipients body, so that the recipient can gain maximum stretch and relaxation.

Donna LaBonte graduated from Academy of Scientific Massage in May 1999. Course included: anatomy, physiology (theory, such as myology, arthrology, osteology, skin, etc) and practical, such as Swedish massage, shiatsu, reflexology, sciatica, varicose veins treatment, mud wraps, cellulite treatment, pregnancy massage, etc.

Home-based business since 1999, with the occasional work at Richmond Beauty Salon, on Richmond Rd, and occasional out calls. Located right on Woodroffe Avenue makes it very easy for clients to locate, and free parking. Although it’s a home based business, it’s kept quiet with a room set up only for massage purposes, hand painted with an island encircling the room (panoramic) painted by Donna.

Recently trained in Thai massage by an RMT. This RMT was teaching a course in Thai massage, but Donna was lucky enough to have one on one instruction. This is a type of massage that is not that popular YET, so she is one of the lucky therapists that know these techniques.

Testimonies

"Donna's massages are a gift from heaven. Whether I am stressed, have aching muscles or back pain, she always knows how to make you unwind and lessen the soreness. She has a good knowledge of reflexology,Thai and Swedish massage and incorporates them into her sessions in a positive way. She spends a full hour or half hour with me and I find her rates very reasonable. I try to see her regularly to be pampered and improve my general health and well-being."

"My neck felt really good yesterday following your massage treatment, and the neck continues to be quite flexible today. Your expertise in massaging is superior to many others that I have been to over the years Having said that, I also want you to know that I appreciate your caring attitude in ensuring that you have made a difference in making my neck flexible one again. This is not always the case with some others I have been to. Thanks again. See you in about a month or so."

“I have been getting treatments from Donna LaBonte's Orthotheraphy for a few years and can readily attest to the effectiveness of them. She puts in a tremendous amount of effort and genuinely cares about your well being. Recently, she has added Thai stretching which I found very soothing on the problem lower back region. I whole heartily recommend Donna's services.”
